Former PHPA Member in Need

By Darryl Dionne  Published on: Wednesday September 05, 2012

Former PHPA Member, Steve Vezina, was recently diagnosed with Esophageal cancer, which is now in the terminal stage.  He is currently in a Boucherville, Quebec hospital surrounded by his family.

Steve’s wife, Valerie (34), son Zachary (3 ½), and daughter Eloise (1 ½) have set up a Facebook page (in French only) http://www.facebook.com/#!/PourLaFamilleVezina and supporters can donate to assist Steve’s wife and children through PayPal (http://www.paypal.com) using the following account: pourlafamillevezina@gmail.com

Vezina was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, and retired after the 2006-07 season, having played in the AHL, ECHL, IHL, CHL, and other professional hockey leagues throughout North America and Europe.

Allen forward Brian McMillin was named the 2013 Central Hockey League Playoff Most Valuable Player after leading all skaters with 12 goals in the playoffs and finishing second with 20 points

The ECHL announced the following schedule for the 2013 Kelly Cup Finals between the Reading Royals and the Stockton Thunder beginning Saturday, May 18th.

Texas vs Oklahoma City and Toronto vs Grand Rapids in the Western Conference, with Providence vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Syracuse vs Springfield in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Although the Marlies were swept in the Calder Cup final by the Norfolk Admirals last year, Nazem Kadri, Matt Frattin, along with defenseman Jake Gardiner, all gained valuable playoff experience. Now they are three players the Toronto Maple Leafs hope can help catapult them into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
