The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) and BioSteel Sports Supplements are pleased to announce the January BioSteel Award Winners from the American Hockey League (AHL), ECHL, and Central Hockey League (CHL).

Rhett Rakhshani of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers receives the AHL BioSteel Award for demonstrating both high performance throughout the month of January.  In 11 games, Rakhshani recorded 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists), finished +14, and was rewarded for his efforts by being recalled by the New York Islanders on January 30th.

South Carolina Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer receives the ECHL BioSteel Award for consistency.  The fourth-round selection of the Washington Capitals in 2010 posted a 7-1-0 record with a 1.66 goals against average and .935 save percentage in January, leading the Stingrays to an 11-2-0 mark for the month.

Tomas Klempa of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees has been named the CHL BioSteel Award winner for consistency and endurance.  Klempa scored at least one point in thirteen consecutive games, finishing the month with 9 goals and 8 assists for 17 points, including 3 game-winning goals during that span.

Allen forward Brian McMillin was named the 2013 Central Hockey League Playoff Most Valuable Player after leading all skaters with 12 goals in the playoffs and finishing second with 20 points

The ECHL announced the following schedule for the 2013 Kelly Cup Finals between the Reading Royals and the Stockton Thunder beginning Saturday, May 18th.

Texas vs Oklahoma City and Toronto vs Grand Rapids in the Western Conference, with Providence vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Syracuse vs Springfield in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Although the Marlies were swept in the Calder Cup final by the Norfolk Admirals last year, Nazem Kadri, Matt Frattin, along with defenseman Jake Gardiner, all gained valuable playoff experience. Now they are three players the Toronto Maple Leafs hope can help catapult them into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
