The Amerks Alumni Association announced today that they have set up a website to help Rochester Americans Hall of Fame center and former PHPA Member Craig Charron in his battle with stomach cancer.

Donations to the Amerks Alumni Association on Craig’s behalf can be made on his website: www.CraigCharron.com.

Fans can send well wishes to Craig on the site and also receive up-to-date information on all fundraising activities. The Alumni will be hosting events throughout the summer and the 2010-11 season to raise money for Charron.

He is currently undergoing treatment to fight the disease, which is also known as gastric adenocarcinoma. Charron, 42, and his wife, Wendy, reside in Spencerport with their four children: Jackson (13), Nicholas (12), Hunter Anne (9), and Emma (7 months). “Sharky” is the general manager at The Sports Centre at MCC and is the varsity hockey coach at Spencerport High School.

Charron was the 44th member of the Amerks Hall of Fame, having played in 335 games (1995-98, 2000-02) with Rochester. “Sharky” was a two-time winner of the team’s MVP award, scoring title, McCulloch Trophy for community service, Fairand O’Neill Award for sportsmanship and the Booster Club’s Most Popular Player award. In 1995-96, he led the club with 43 goals, 52 assists and 95 points, earned team MVP honors and helped the Amerks win their sixth Calder Cup. In 1997-98 he was named the AHL’s Fred T. Hunt Award winner for sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey.

The National Hockey League announced that American Hockey League President & CEO David Andrews has been named a recipient of the 2010 Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the hiring of former Calder Cup champion defenseman and PHPA Player Rep Steve Poapst as an assistant coach with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs.

EA SPORTS has an exclusive license with the American Hockey League allowing all AHL teams -- as well as players, stats, uniforms, logos, arenas and trophies -- to be featured in EA's NHL franchise.

The home of the Professional Hockey Players’ Association has relocated to a re-designed, state-of-the-art office facility in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
